Crochet Puff Stitch Wristlet Pattern

If you want to purchase an ad-free printable PDF version of this crochet puff stitch wristlet pattern, you can find it HERE on Etsy.

Last year I did my first spring craft fair in a loooong time. And I wanted to come up with some new ideas and patterns to sell at the fair.

I was looking at some little convenience items that are good to sell at craft fairs. And I saw lots of keychain/lanyard items. So I thought I’d come up with a crochet wristlet pattern!

It took a few rounds of getting all the numbers right, but I ended up with a product that I loved! I only sold 1 at the craft fair, but I now have one on my keys and use it all the time.

The pattern works up fairly quickly, making it a good item to sell at a craft fair. It also makes a great little last-minute gift item or addition to a little care package or gift basket!

This pattern is geared towards advanced beginner/intermediate crocheters. It uses mostly basic stitches except for a puff stitch. This stitch is fairly easy to learn, and I have a photo tutorial included in this post and the printable PDF teaching you how to work it!

NOTE: If you want to sell finished products from this crochet puff stitch wristlet pattern you’re welcome to, just make sure you link back to my pattern here and credit me with the design. Thank you!

Special Puff Stitch Tutorial

To make the special bobble stitch for this pattern, [yarn over, insert your hook into the stitch and pull up a loop (photo A)] 5 times. You should now have 11 loops on your hook (photo B).

Yarn over and pull through all 11 loops (photo C).

Pattern

Begin with your size F (3.75mm hook) and your cotton yarn. You’ll switch to the smaller hook later for the edging.

Row 1: ch 46, turn

Note: As you’re working row 2 you’ll notice it curls on itself and the puff stitches don’t all push out on the same side (photo D).

Don’t stress out, this is supposed to happen! We’ll adjust it after row 2.

Row 2: Starting in the 5th ch from the hook make 1 puff stitch (photo E). Ch 1 (photo F). *Skip next ch (photo G), make 1 puff st in the following ch st, ch 1* 21 times (photo H shows 3 of these iterations).

You should only have 1 ch left (photo I), make 1 dc in it to finish the row (photo J).

You’ll now work the edging all the way around the keychain. Switch to using your size E (3.50mm) hook.

Rotate your wristlet 90 degrees clockwise (photo K).

Make 3 sc around the dc you made at the end of your last row (photos L, M, N).

Rotate your wristlet 90 degrees clockwise again so that you can work down the chain you made in row 1 (photo O).

Make 2 sc in the base chain of the puff stitch (photos P, Q).

*Sc in the space between the puff sts (photos R, S), sc in the base ch of the next puff st (photo T)* repeat steps between * until you reach the last puff st.

Rotate your wristlet 90 degrees clockwise again so that you can work around the chains that you skipped at the beginning of row 2 (photo V). Then work 3 sc around the chain like you did around the dc earlier (photos W, X).

Rotate your wristlet 90 degrees clockwise again so that you can work down the top of row 2 (photo Y).

Made 2 sc in the top of the first puff stitch (photos Z, a, b).

*Sc in the space between the puff sts (photos c, d, e), sc in the top of the next puff st (photo f)* until you have made your last sc in the last puff st (photos g, h).

To help your wristlet lay flat, pull tightly on both ends while looking at the top of the row you just worked (photo i shows the technique on a small section of the wristlet). Then use your finger to push the puff stitches up to the side you’re looking at. You’ll notice it lays much flatter now.

Cut the yarn and pull it through, leaving a tail about a foot long (photo j).

Thread this tail onto a needle, then insert the needle under the two loops of the first stitch you made around the dc (photo k). Pull your needle through (photo l), then insert it into the hole your yarn tail just came out of (photo m) and pull tight until you have created what looks like a new stitch and the edging of your wristlet looks continuous (photo n).

Keeping this tail on your needle, flip over your wristlet and weave the tail through the sts you worked around the dc earlier so that your tail is coming out of the middle st around the dc (photos o, p).

At this point, to help your wristlet look more sleek, flat, and professional at the end, pin it flat and steam block it.

Once your wristlet has fully dried, fold it in half and place the straight edge of your D-ring lobster clasp where the two ends meet (photo q).

Using the tail you left behind, stitch the wristlet together by stitching through the two ends, looping around the straight edge of the D-ring, and then stitching back through the two ends (photos r, s).

Continue this pattern up and down the end of your wristlet until the bar is covered by stitches and your wristlet is secure (photos t, u).

Knot your tail on the inside of the wristlet and weave in your end.

And your little keychain is complete!
